What do y'all think about McCain's pick for V.P.?

Personally, I think it was a smart move on his part. All the focus is on him and Sarah, and I think he has been rather successful in deflating the hype coming out of the DNC this week.

I haven't heard of Sarah Palin either. Please enlighten us who are out of the loop.

Sarah Palin is McCain's VP choice - she's a former Alaskan governor who is pro-gun, pro-family and pro-life. First female Republican on a presidential ticket.

However, I did read that she was in favor for gay rights (though she does believe in marriage between one man and one woman). Needless to say, it is hard to research her right now, because her site(s) are receiving a lot of traffic!

Too bad she is not a guy, otherwise I would be rather inclined to support her. Yet, seeing she is a mother (with a baby only a few months old) - who is going to parent her children? Esp. if her husband continues working (which I assume he would)... I do think this is the boost McCain needed, something that may attract those Clinton supporters who don't like Obama.

Yeah, I've heard some good things about her. I also heard that she's very much a tax-and-spend politician, raising taxes a lot in Alaska. Anyone have more information on that?

I agree. It is a pity that she is a woman, but I refer her over Hillary any day. I love Alaska and love most of what comes from there. Its a pity if she holds to taxes and gay rights, but in the long run, a Vice President doesn't do anything of importance. John Adams was famous for his comments on that, for he thought it to be the most useless job. There might come a time where there is a tie in congress. She may be the deciding factor, but I wouldn't depend on those rare cases. McCain might kick the bucket in office, but the mostly like outcome is assassination. In which case we need to look at the Vice president. Other than that I don't care who McCain's vice president is (unless of course it was Ron Paul). If she is pregnant, what is she doing? Her priority should be her new child and she should dedicate her time to her child in hopes that her child may grow up and be a godly person. That's the true duty of a mother.

I think it was a very good political move for McCain. One thing that has been giving him upward mobility in the polls has been his stance on homegrown oil production (something that Obama has now mysteriously seen the light on). Governor Palin is big on getting the Alaskan oil fields developed. Plus she is a woman. No matter who is elected now . . . it will be a first. If McCain gets elected though, it will be two firsts, 1) oldest president, 2) first woman VP. For that alone I think he has the edge. If only people knew that he was the first candidate that looks like he is hiding a nut in his cheek. Could it be that he is hiding a microchip in there with the number 666 on it? Don't be surprised if he aligns with Russia, joins in the crushing of the budding Republic of Georgia, changes his name to Nicolai Karpathian (or suchlike) and bombs Israel while breathing fire out of his mouth. Just remember . . . you heard it here first.

I saw on the news that her "new baby" is actually her unwed teen daughter's child. They said that she was going to be marrying the father soon.

Just to clarify:

The Down Syndrome baby is Sarah Palin's son, I believe he is four months old. Sarah's seventeen year old, unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. As Lady Eowyn mentioned, they say she is planning on marrying the father of the child.

Would you like her better if she had the same hobbies as you? Why is this a good reason to "hate" her? Any biblical reasons?

I would greatly appreciate it you would not make fun of McCain. He served our country faithfully overseas and was tortured horribly for it. This forum was made for discussing and debating current political events, not for speaking badly about other people.

Perhaps it wasn't the best way to say it but when someone is in such a position they are held to higher standards and deserve criticism. For instance if a police breaks a traffic law; on the one hand he is a fallible human but on the other because of his position he is held to higher standards and deserves a great punishment. So one running for president while on the one hand is human on the other deserves criticism. Depending on your definition of "speaking badly" about others it's not always wrong. Those in authority deserve greater respect but also, "to those whom much is given, much is required."

"Speaking badly" may not always be wrong, but making fun of someone's personal appearance, in my opinion is unneccessary and never in good taste.

If a man on the police force breaks a traffic law, why should he be held to higher standard and deserve a great punishment?
