The "Civil" War
What do you think the "Civil" War was about (causes/reasons for)? Which side do you think was right?

I believe the CSA had the moral high ground in the War of Northern Aggression.

South was right. Question that and your a bigoted yank.
Haha. Actually, I shouldn't say that, since some of my closest friends are yanks.
But I do think the South had justice on her side, and should have been allowed to secede from the Union. It definitely didn't really have much to do with slavery. At least Stonewall and I agree on this.

I think there is a possibility that if the South had not invaded the North, but stayed on their own territory, they might have won the war. Do y'all agree?

Absolutely. Gettysburg was the turning point of the war, and the reason the South lost was because they changed their campaign strategy from defensive to offensive. Longstreet's defensive strategy was sound.
Re: The "Civil" War
Can't we all agree that the Civil War is over? Well except in racially divided places like Mississippi.
Let the historians spin how it was won and what it was about.

We're not fighting the war over again, we're merely analyzing it and discussing its causes and events. If you don't want to take part in this thread, you don't have to.
Re: The "Civil" War
I don't think invading the North was the reason the South lost. The loss there only sped up the inevitable. Remember that the defeat of the South was a judgment on the whole country. We moved from lex rex to rex lex and all became slaves.

Re: The "Civil" War
I say Thomas Jackson's death was the turning point. He gave the south victory after victory. Once he was killed, everything collapsed. The fall of Vicksburg was more of a turning oint then Gettysburg, however. With Vicksburg's fall came the fall of the Mississippi River, thus dividing the south in two, the major part of the Anaconda plan.
Civil War
There is a ton of books written on this subject, most of which I have not read. Slavery was just a hook to hang the cause of the war on. The south did have the higher moral ground. I think the real question we have to look at is "What would our country look like had the south been allowed to secede. I don't think we would have such a powerful central govt that we have now. Maybe we wouldn't be such an empire builder around the world alson. Slavary was on the way our sooner or later anyway. Good subject though. President Lincoln didn't exactly follow constitutional guidelines in this area. Lee felt that states rights had been lost and at some points in his life did regret the surrender.

No, don't! We should not let the revisionist take over our history, spinning to their ideas! Do we want children to be learning false tales about what "really happen"? This should not be allowed. The revisionists should not be allowed to make up false tales and announce them as what really happend! This has and is happening too many times about much of our history (Jamestown is a great example of this). We should be willing to spread the truth about what happened.
Re: The "Civil" War
If I was governor of a state, I would push to make it illegal to have revionist history taught in schools, for it is merely fictitious tales that counter and/or leave out the truth of our past. Coming from a Public School, I am quite familiar with revisionist history and am rightly sickened to see the great christians of our past blotted out of textbooks to be replaced with pagans and other filth. Boy do I wish I was homeschooled...
I didn't say a single thing about the Civil War! To make this post count, I will say that Lincoln suspended habeous corpus in order to arrest thousands of journalists who wrote against the war. When the border states threatened to seccede, he sent federal troops to invade the state conventions, preventing the states from secceding by force. The Confederacy became a seperate country, but Lincoln refused to acknowledge it. He sent supplies to Fort Sumter in South Carolina to spark a war. He wanted to defeat the south in a war and take them back by force. He despised Andrew Jackson, the beast of a president that used our Constitution as toilet paper, but turned out to be his equal in villainy. He may be our greatest president, but the greatest of what?

I would like to respectfully suggest that the Union's actions during the war and reconstruction directly led to the political estate in which we live today. The overwhelming reason we are struggling to regain our freedoms today is because the South lost. When the Union invaded the South, they fed the Constitution to the lions - The Constitution and every other Christian, freedom loving document we owe our heritage to - the Magna Carta and Declaration of Independence included.
